Theo Frids Hutabarat

Theo Frids Hutabarat

Is a young artist from Bandung who focuses on figurative paintings and video installations, who holds a critical view points toward Western Art History, particularly painting tradition.

Hutabarat tries to redefine western influenced painting by presenting his own artistic language and expression. He has developed the use of projection in this work through video installation.

As a painter, Theo has often projected images onto his canvases to create quick sketches of his work. Since then, he has combined images of works by artists that have inspired him such as Egon Schiele, with image of himself in the action of painting.

What results is a complex and tense relationship between the objects and the represented artist himself.Theo joint Bazaar Art Jakarta 2015 and 2016, Singapore art stage 2015, and SPOT ART 2013, group exhibition by ARTrium, Singapore.
