 ‘…As one thing is broken, more than the loss is memorized;
but the thing is recreated in a new version…’

“…the misfortune and serious sickness in my life make me see the world in a different way as it seems my status in the society have been lessened; especially in the context of contemporary society. In the society, people tend to encounter the feelings of alienation in many situations. Those alienations connect to the righteousness of determining and evaluating the value of humans in the society which is now getting awry…”

Artist: Ronnachai Kitisaksin

After realized that his serious illness would be with him for a lifetime, Kitisaksin have struggled and adapted himself conform to the sickness. Many favorite activities were forbidden since they may harm his health. When the body was so weak, it caused the strength of his mind as if shaken and breaking to breakage.

The realistic paintings and ceramic sculptures in Breaking through the Breakage – exhibition seem to be a language for the artist to communicate with the society. The ceramic dolls are mainly presented in the paintings as their materials are fragile and easily broken, so they perfectly refer to his recent life.  Besides, the ceramics appear in many kinds of animal forms and they are set up to resonate with his feelings and emotions. The broken ceramic is recreated and become a new model; however, it is alienated among others in a group. Furthermore, the ceramic model is painted with colors carelessly and being arranged with plastic bed sheets used in the patient wards in the background to reflect on his sickness.

As the breakage can not become the new one, his health condition will not be back to normal either. Nevertheless, the artist has never given up. Using art as a therapy for his illness and for encouraging himself to break through the difficulties in his life are presented in realistic paintings and ceramic sculptures. Every brushstroke acts as an encouraging word to fulfill his dream and each painting works as a remedy to heal his spirit to be lively again. Hence, Breaking through the Breakage is his most significant series of works which visualize his views, thoughts and feelings with spiritual colors and brushstrokes.
