SO WHAT exhibition – celebrating 2-Year Anniversary of ‘Magazine Latitudes’
- 16 February – 17 March 2019
- @ S.A.C. Bangkok
- Sponsored by S.A.C., Turkish Airlines, BACCHUS & CO, ELEPHANT PARADE, SO Sofitel Bangkok
Latitudes embarks upon its third year of publication! To mark the occasion, we brought together ALL the artists who made it to the cover for a one-of-a-kind exhibition at Subhashok the Arts Centre (SAC): So What.
From Hom’s unfading lines to Ingo’s farcical SCENES, from Virginie’s light sketches to Vhils’ or Soichiro’s creative destruction, the styles intersect. Mardi, Alex’s favorite figure, meets the shapes of Daan’s surrealist compositions. The moving faces of Stéphanie’s travel journals look deep into Chatsayarot’s captivating lines, the classics remixed by Jirapat respond to Raphaël’s instinctive rolls, and Nakrob sticks and unsticks.
Painting, illustration, drawing, sculpture, street art, pop art, collages, installations… The Latitudes team has always been curious and open to all forms of art. For two years, we’ve continually featured local and international artists whose works have proven to be real showstoppers, artists who, like the magazine’s editorial policy, are fully committed to developing rich exchanges between the Asian and Western cultures.
Two years! 2,020 pages, thousands of kilometers traveled between Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Phuket, Tao, Samui, and Lanta, Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, Singapore and Ho Chi Minh, Paris and Brussels to meet these 13 artists, countless hours to explore the museums, galleries, and the best of everything the region’s rich artistic scene has to offer, not to mention, of course, everything else that makes up the essence of the magazine: l’art de vivre.
To celebrate this milestone, Latitudes is organizing an exhibition of works by these 12 artists who designed the magazine’s cover during its first two years, +1! In fact, Jisbar, the famous French pop artist who features on the new issue’s front page, has created a customized copy of this cover in a 120x160cm size.
Of course, the artworks will be on sale, providing many opportunities to own a piece of Latitudes’ history.
